Welcome to Tenelach!
Here at Tenelach Tuathanas, we honor the deep connection with the earth, sky, and water. Our small No-Kill farm produces duck, goose, and chicken eggs, feathers, bee products, specialty peppers, tomatoes, and seasonal produce — all grown with care and respect for nature. Located in Rough and Ready, California, this small farm is developing sustainable enterprises with a focus on ethical care, soil health, and community enrichment.
Tenelach Tuathanas is a small, diversified farm crafting thoughtful goods from the land - ethical eggs, seasonal produce, specialty plants, hand crafted wreaths, flower bulb pots and bespoke woodwork.
Tenelach Tuathanas operates on approximately two acres, integrating multiple small enterprises.
The property includes a 33×32 ft duck barn, a secondary duck barn (13×32 ft), a 20×42 ft greenhouse (~900 sq ft), two outdoor ponds, orchard and garden zones, and slope areas used for crop expansion. All operations emphasize humane animal management, sustainable growing, and responsible resource use.
Poultry
The poultry operation is the cornerstone of the farm. As of late 2025, the flock consists primarily of ducks and geese, with chickens also contributing to egg production and soil enrichment. The current duck flock includes approximately 26 laying and growing ducks, representing a mix of Buff, Cayuga, Chocolate Runner, Khaki Campbell, and White Layer genetics. Duck egg production has increased steadily over the season and is currently averaging multiple eggs per day, with further gains expected as the flock matures. The farm also maintains a resident goose, which serve multiple roles including guarding, weed control, and seasonal egg production.
Looking ahead, the poultry operation will expand in February 2026 with the planned arrival of three Chinese geese, one Khaki Campbell drake, and two Buff ducks (one male, one female) to support future breeding, flock stability, and long-term egg production goals.
Apiary
The apiary enterprise will begin in spring 2026, with two nucleus colonies planned for the farm. The hives will be located near the orchard to support pollination of fruit trees and surrounding crops. In addition to improving overall farm productivity, the bees will contribute honey, wax, and important pollination benefits to the broader farm ecosystem.
Produce and Propagation
The produce enterprise emphasizes high-quality, small-batch crops. For the farm’s first year of operation, specialty peppers are a primary focus this year, with tomatoes also playing a key role alongside seasonal greens, herbs, and melons.
In addition to food crops, the farm propagates select trees and ornamentals—including Sequia Redwood, Japanese Maple, Pistache, Fig, and Willow—for future planting and limited sale.
Handcrafted Goods & Artisan Offerings
In addition to seasonal produce and propagation stock, Tenelach Tuathanas creates handcrafted wreaths, decorative flower bulb planters, and small woodwork pieces from sustainably harvested and naturally fallen materials. Each item is made with intention and respect for the life of the material—from pruned wood to farm-shed feathers.
Orchard and Trees
The orchard at Tenelach Tuathanas includes a diverse mix of fruit and ornamental trees selected for long-term productivity, resilience, and landscape value. Fruit plantings include apples, berries, mandarins, jujube fruits, figs, and pears, alongside a variety of ornamental and shade trees.
Tree care focuses on gradual establishment, seasonal pruning, and soil health, with propagation and replacement plantings used to strengthen the orchard over time. Select trees and starts may be offered for sale as they become available.
Greenhouse Operations
The greenhouse supports both seasonal production and plant propagation. It is used to start and grow specialty pepper seedlings, which are a central focus of the farm, along with tomatoes and other warm-season crops. During the cooler months, the greenhouse also supports winter greens and vegetables, including kale, lettuce, cabbage, celery, and related crops.
